What Counts as AI-Enabled? AI Inventory?

An asset or component is AI-enabled when it uses AI itself: it sends data to an AI model or service, or it has AI features that act on your data. AI-enabled items appear in the AI inventory report, with their connections, data classification and criticality.

What counts

AI agents

Chatbots, assistants and agents that act on your data. AI Agent assets are marked AI-enabled automatically when you save them.

Apps calling AI

Software that sends data to an AI service or model, for example an HR app that screens CVs with a language model.

Reports and flows

Reports or automations that use AI features, for example a Power BI report that uses Copilot to write summaries, or a flow with an AI step.

Vendor tools

Third-party tools with built-in AI, like copilots, when that AI is switched on and used.

What doesn't count

  • A data lake or database that only stores data, even if AI uses that data later.
  • A report that only shows results calculated by AI somewhere else.
  • A tool that offers AI features nobody has switched on.

These items may still be Connected to AI through their links. That status is calculated automatically, so you don't set it yourself. See How do AI enabled and Connected to AI work?

Not sure?

Choose Unknown. The AI inventory report counts Unknown items separately, so you can filter on them and check them later with the asset owner.

How to mark an item

  1. Open the asset or component.
  2. Set AI-enabled to Yes.
  3. Save. The item now appears in the AI inventory report.
